Leela Schauble / blue

This is a series of photographic works depicting the Arctic ocean interactions with soft plastics and the digital presentation of ‘YInMn Blue’, an inorganic blue pigment. The colour blue is a rarity in nature and is used in my works to reflect on the relationship between organic and inorganic. Soft plastics and ‘YInMn Blue’ are both human-made materials, yet perform differently; one can pollute whilst the other can be used as an energy-saver. These works offer up the question; what is the real cost of the materials we create?

The Ocean Isn’t Blue (I) won the ILFORD Excellence in Photomedia Award, Centre for Contemporary Photography
